There seems to be universal consensus that the "Digital Age" has made the practice of plagiarism quicker and easier for students to engage in than for students of yesteryear.  Gone are the days of a student plagiarizing by copying words from an encyclopedia or journal via their own handwriting.  What previously took hours to complete can now can be accomplished in mere seconds or minutes. 

A quick internet search reveals that "Paper Mills" are big (HUGE) business, colleges and universities across the United States grapple with the pros and cons of utilizing plagiarism detection software, and notable universities (U of Virginia for one) have rescinded college degrees years afterward for newly discovered cases of plagiarism.   

Even college admissions offices currently use software to detect if admissions essays are being "recycled" and "reused"!
